BEING part of one of Fiji’s most prestigious 7s tournaments has always been a dream for members of the Loa Rugby Club in Cakaudrove on Vanua Levu.

The side is one of the first teams to register for this year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament in Suva.

“It has always been a dream for our players, who are villagers, to play in the Marist 7s,” said team manager Isikeli Vakadalolo.

The club is from Loa Village in Buca Bay, Cakaudrove.

It is made up of young men who are mostly farmers.

“Our last tournament was at the Wairiki 7s tournament in Taveuni.

“We did not fare well. It was a first for our players and they gained a lot from that tournament.”

Vakadalolo said they had no big names, but hoped their players would gain exposure in the annual event.

“To test our players against the calibre of teams in the Marist 7s. Who knows, we might just cause some upsets.”
